What Are You Reading? And….A Giveaway!! March 22, 2011

Filed under: Uncategorized — sandra @ 3:11 pm

Which None Can Shut was a great book that really makes you think beyond your own little world.  The book is written by Reema Goode, a missionary in the Middle East.  She and her family are there to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with a Muslim world.  In the book, Goode shares little snippets of what her life is like on a day-to-day basis.  She also wants everyone to know that the Lord is truly working and making Himself known to these devout Muslims.  The book is a quick, easy read, but it really challenges you to think about the importance of taking the gospel to all nations.  I really enjoyed the book and  have learned things about the Muslim culture that I didn’t know before.

This book was provided to me from Tyndale House Publishing at no charge in return for my honest review.  Now that I’ve read the book, I would love to pass it along to someone else that may be interested in reading it!  So, if you would like to win my copy of this book, just leave a comment telling me what you’ve been reading recently.  Be sure you leave a way for me to contact you should you win.  I will select a winning comment via random.org on Friday morning.  The winner will be contacted via email.  (Sorry, but I can only ship within the US.)

Yummy Sweet Potato Pie!! March 16, 2011

Filed under: Uncategorized — sandra @ 10:06 pm

I haven’t done so well the last couple of weeks about trying out new recipes.  But….I do have a recipe I want to share with you!  Yesterday, I made two sweet potato pies.  This is a recipe that my Mom gave me and it is delicious!  Everyone in my family loves it!  Plus, to make it even better…it’s SO easy!!!

2 cups cooked and mashed sweet potatoes (2 potatoes usually makes about 2 cups)

1 1/4 cups sugar

1 stick butter

1 egg beaten

1/4 cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 pie crust

Microwave potatoes until tender, then peel and mash.

Place hot potatoes in mixing bowl with all other ingredients.  Mix well.

Pour into pie crust.

Bake at 350 degrees, until filling is set (approx. 30-40 mins)

Serve warm with whipped cream.

Enjoy!!!

Booking It……February Results

Filed under: Uncategorized — sandra @ 6:16 pm

I’m a little late in posting my February results for the Booking It 2011 reading challenge.  I got two books read this month.  First book was The House That Cleans Itself by Mindy Starns Clark.  I didn’t care too much for this book, but I did pick up a couple of good ideas.  You can find my review here.

The second book I read was Radical by David Platt.  This book was excellent!!  Very thought-provoking and challenging.  It reminded me a good bit of Crazy Love by Frances Chan.  From the back of the book….

“In Radical, David Platt challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated the gospel to fit our cultural preferences.  He shows what Jesus actually said about being his disciple–then invites you to believe and obey what you have heard.”

Be sure to check out what others are reading for the Booking It 2011 challenge!
